Old Age Homes

• Since 1963, the “Old Age Home” scheme has been implemented through voluntary organizations to ensure that senior citizens can spend their old age comfortably. Men aged 60 and women aged 55 are admitted to these old age homes.
• In addition to the above scheme, to provide additional facilities to senior citizens in old age homes, the “Matoshree Old Age Home” scheme was started through voluntary organizations by government resolution dated November 17, 1995. Under this scheme, 24 Matoshree Old Age Homes are operating in the state without any grants. Facilities are provided to the residents of these old age homes.
• Each Matoshree Old Age Home has an approved capacity of 100 residents. Senior citizens whose annual income exceeds ₹12,000 are charged a monthly fee of ₹500 for admission, while those with an annual income less than this amount are not charged any fee. (50 seats are for fee-paying individuals and 50 seats are for non-fee-paying individuals).
• Needy senior citizens seeking admission to old age homes should contact the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Social Welfare / District Social Welfare Officer, Zilla Parishad of the respective district.

Run by NGOs

• The “Old Age Home” scheme under the Maharashtra Government’s Social Justice Department was initiated through voluntary organizations by government resolution number SW/1063/44945/N dated February 20, 1963.
• As of today, 33 old age homes are being operated on a grant basis through voluntary organizations in the state. Men aged 60 and above and women aged 55 and above are admitted to these old age homes.
• These old age homes are intended for destitute, homeless, and disabled senior citizens. The government provides a grant of ₹900 per person per month for 12 months as nourishment for the residents.
• Residents of these old age homes are provided with free facilities such as meals, first aid, and accommodation.
