Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Research & Training Institute, Pune
Brief History
- To realize the vision of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, and to achieve the objectives mentioned in the Indian Constitution such as justice, liberty, equality, fraternity among the people of our nation, upliftment of the underprivileged sections of society, eradication of superstitions, caste hatred, caste discrimination, and to eliminate discrimination based on religion or gender, and to develop fraternity, scientific temperament, and communal harmony, the Maharashtra Government’s Department of Cultural Affairs, Sports, and Tourism established the “Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Samata Vichar Peeth” on December 22, 1978, by order number UTA, 1078 / D-XXV. The operations of this Samata Peeth began on March 12, 1979, from the premises of the Mahatma Phule Backward Class Development Corporation, Mumbai. As per government orders, the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Samata Vichar Peeth was relocated to its current address at 28, Queens Garden, Pune on February 11, 1987.
- In 2008, this organization became autonomous under its current name – Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute (BARTI), Pune. This institute is committed to equality and social justice through scientific research, evaluation of socially relevant schemes, advocacy for the underprivileged sections, policy advocacy, training, skill development, etc.
- The Maharashtra Government, Social Justice and Special Assistance Department, under resolution number AaPraSa- 2005/ Case Number 383/ MAVAKA dated April 30, 2008, has granted approval for registration. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute, Pune is registered under the Indian Society Registration Act, 1860, and the Indian Public Trust Act, 1950. The registered office of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute (BARTI), Pune, is located at 28, Queens Garden, near Old Circuit House, Pune – 411 001.
Objectives / Mission
- Provide opportunities for Scheduled Caste youth in Maharashtra to work or start in various fields, and create micro-enterprises and success stories with excellent outcomes.
- Train the deprived, unemployed, unskilled, and semi-skilled trainees from Scheduled Castes and Tribes to make them skilled and employable.
- Conduct research on “Equity and Social Justice” to maintain equality in society.
- Implement and spread various schemes, projects, and initiatives to promote the thoughts of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.
- Facilitate a hassle-free online verification information system for caste validity certificates for citizens of Maharashtra.
- Scan, digitize, index, archive, and search for supporting documents for old caste validity cases.
- Promote all areas related to social justice and equality and assist the government in formulating plans and policies.
- Strive to increase fraternity among various sections of society and establish national integration.
- Organize inter-departmental training.
- Spread good thoughts and deliver social messages through cultural activities.
- Raise awareness about government policies and organize various programs for Scheduled Castes and Tribes.
- Collect authentic data for the development of Scheduled Castes through research and encourage research through fellowships, collaborations, conferences, seminars, and workshops.
- Appeal for raising funds for social initiatives.
