Anna Bhau Sathe Reasearch and Training Institute (ARTI), Mumbai
Brief History:
- To ensure the comprehensive development of the Matang community, which is included in the Scheduled Castes category, in social, educational, economic, cultural, and political aspects, and to ensure that the welfare policies for Scheduled Castes benefit the individuals of the Matang community appropriately, the Krantiguru Lahuji Salve Matang Community Study Commission was constituted by the Government Resolution of the Department of Social Justice, Cultural Affairs, Sports, and Special Assistance, No. CBC 10/2001/ Pr. No. 144/ Mavak-5, dated 1.8.2003.
- This commission made 82 recommendations to the government. Among these, recommendation No. 72 suggested establishing a national memorial in Mumbai in the name of Sahityaratna Anna Bhau Sathe, equipped with modern facilities for research and knowledge acquisition.
- In the interim budget for the year 2024-25, it was announced that an Anna Bhau Sathe Research and Training Institute (ARTI) would be established for the Matang community on the lines of the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute (BARTI), Pune.
- Accordingly, as per the decision taken in the meeting of the Hon. Cabinet on 11.07.2024, the Anna Bhau Sathe Research and Training Institute (ARTI) has been established for the development of the Matang and similar castes (Mang, Matang, Minimadig, Dakhni-Mang, Mang-Mhasi, Madari, Garudi, Radhemang, Mang-Garodi, Mang-Garudi, Madgi, Madiga) under the Scheduled Castes, on the lines of the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute (BARTI), Pune.
Goals and Objectives:
- To continue and develop the Equality Thought Platform as a research and training institute.
- To conduct research on “social equality” prevalent in various fields and how the principles of social equality can be made more effective in society.
- To provide facilities for young individuals to exchange professional knowledge related to social equality and to offer training that enhances their knowledge from a sociological perspective.
- To create better awareness in society about the principles of “social equality” through cooperation, training, and further research, and to promote the work of social equality.
- To undertake activities such as organizing educational courses, conferences, lectures, seminars, and symposiums related to the institute’s objectives.
- To publish books, periodicals, research papers, and essays related to the institute’s objectives.
- To cooperate and coordinate with established and recognized institutions and organizations related to the institute’s objectives and to encourage them in their work.
- To implement plans related to education, higher education, training, research, skill development, employment, self-employment training, start-ups, job creation, promotion, publicity, social, educational, economic, political, and cultural development.
- To conduct research, training, promotion, and publicity related to folk songs, folk culture, and folk arts.
- To promote traditional occupations and provide financial assistance.
- To organize and participate in district-level, state-level, and international conferences on arts and skills.
- To publish and translate the literature of Anna Bhau Sathe into national and international languages.
- To recognize and award prizes, scholarships, and stipends according to the institute’s objectives and to grant them.
